300*250 vacation with your friends

Today, as part of my series about visiting Tybee Island, I’m talking all about Tybee Island rentals and other places to stay during your visit.

Our Tybee Island Rental

Having never been to Tybee Island before, I had no idea where to book our accommodations. I reached out to the Tybee Island Visitors Center for recommendations regarding places to stay, and they very quickly sent me suggestions for Tybee Island vacation rentals.

After receiving the list of recommendations from Visit Tybee, I reached out to Mermaid Cottages to inquire about their options.

Mermaid Cottages responded offered us a 2-bed, 2-bath pet-friendly home named Sea Largo. Each home has a name along with the year it was built – Sea Largo was constructed in 1962.

I was assigned a personal travel agent, Mermaid Mona, to assist me. She was a whiz and handled every detail of our accommodation arrangements efficiently and thoroughly.

Everything about the check-in process was electronic. It was a well-thought-out process that was easy to follow step-by-step and complete. There’s even an app for your phone called Hospitality where you do everything. I clicked a few buttons and we were ready to go – I love when it’s uncomplicated like that!

Mermaid Cottages specialize in renting vintage homes and cottages, which I love. As a bonus, most of the cottages are pet-friendly. That fits, since the owners of Mermaid Cottages also run a dog rescue.

Our cottage had nice linens, a well-stocked kitchen, tasteful and updated decor, and a screened-in porch where we enjoyed lots of people watching!

I would highly recommend Mermaid Cottages if you need to book a Tybee Island vacation rental – I’m sure you’ll love it and the location (mid-beach). We loved it so much that we would totally stay there again.

Here are a couple of quick mentions to check out:

DeSoto Beach Hotel and DeSoto Properties

Bright, beachside lodging with three properties that offer a variety of rooms & suites, plus an outdoor pool & free hot southern breakfast. The Georgianne Inn and Suites is part of the DeSoto properties.

The property also offers the closest B&B to the beach so it is very popular. With only three rooms it offers an intimate setting with an oceanfront pool.

Whichever DeSoto property you pick you will be pleased with the long list of amenities. They offer free wifi, a hot southern breakfast, breezy porches and a heated pool.

Tybee Beachview Inn and Spa

Located in a mansion that dates back to 1910, this B&B offers 13 guest rooms, a sauna, salt room, steam room, beach bikes, beach chairs, delicious food, free parking, fantastic service, and much more. This National Registry Inn & Spa on the Southend of Tybee Island has recently been restored.

It is just a stroll from the beautiful beaches of Tybee Island and offers luxury accommodations.

Hotel Tybee

If you are looking to be just steps from the beach, the local nightlife, shopping and restaurants you will want to check out Hotel Tybee by Tybee Pier. Located on the bustling North side of the island, Hotel Tybee was voted “Best Place to Stay” by South Magazine for 2017 and winner of “Best of Best Hotel” in the Coastal Empire for 2019. This historic hotel has been serving guests since 1889! More than 129 years!

Hotel Tybee offers pet-friendly accommodations and great off-season rates as well for those looking for a deal.

Surf Song Bed and Breakfast

Surf Song is off the beach by one block but still offers amazing amenities and has great reviews.

If you are looking for a charming victorian beach experience this is your spot. This bed and breakfast offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the character and beauty of a historic home with updated beach furnishings. Circa 1898, the home is one block to the beach, has a private pool, remodeled in 2013 from top to bottom, and has a gorgeous wrap-around porch. The suites were designed by well-known designer Jane Coslic.

Accommodations on Tybee Island

There are many other fun options that may fit your budget and planned travel time too. Check out Visit Tybee for more recommendations.

With several Tybee Island rentals to choose from, picking just one may seem challenging. For those traveling with pets, I highly recommend Mermaid Cottages. If you want to check out other options, check out the local recommendations that Visit Tybee provides – they didn’t steer me wrong!

Tybee is also just a 20-minute drive from Savannah. If you are looking for a quieter spot to lay your head at night, and enjoy the beach, Tybee Island is a great choice for your Savannah trip.

What I love most about Tybee Island is the vintage feel. Its dedication to restoring and maintaining its vintage homes and Inns on the island is apparent. Many of these homes are painstakingly renovated to keep their original charm from the late 1800s and early 1900s. It is like being taken back in history when you are strolling or biking through the neighborhoods of Tybee Island. There are a ton of fun family activities available on Tybee as well.
