History
Originally The King and Prince opened up as a dance club in 1935, with the main hotel opening in 1941. This resort was also used during World War II by our Navy as a prime spot to watch over our coastline and spot German U-boats.
The famous resort is one of only a handful in Georgia to be recognized as a member of the Historic Hotels of America. It is located on St. Simons Island, the state’s largest barrier island. This resort has been given many accolades over the years. Here are just a few of the most recent ones!
- TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence (2011-2019), Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame
- OpenTable.com Diner’s Choice Award (2015-2019)

Because it is located in the heart of St. Simons Island, The King and Prince is conveniently located to all of the attractions on the island. In fact, The King and Prince Beach Resort is the only direct oceanfront hotel on the island. Many guests will park their cars during their stay and use bikes as their mode of transportation due to its central location! Their beautiful wide beaches have nicely compacted sand so they are easy to walk, run or bike on.
Pet Friendly
The main reason why we love The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort? The property is the perfect romantic couple’s destination that is pet-friendly! We loved taking Bo on the beach because there were no issues with getting sand in his fur. It is the perfect pet-friendly spot! This is a great destination during the summer months. But because it is far enough south you can also have a great beach vacation during the fall as well! With no crowds!
The lobby is stunning when you enter. You will typically be greeted by a door person who is always happy and smiling. We checked in and let them know we were there so they could call us when our room was ready. We decided to come early and explore the island. King and Prince Resort Accommodations
Wynn Cottage
The front desk called, so we headed back to the resort and picked up our keys. We were assigned to the Wynn Cottage. A pet-friendly, vintage home located about a few steps from the ocean. It also had its own driveway. Traveling with a pet brings accessories. We were able to unload right at our front door.
One feature I loved about this two-story vintage home was the full kitchen. I enjoy having kitchen facilities when I vacation. There is also a patio area with a grill. Had we been there a little longer I would have definitely taken advantage of this. The food was just so fantastic at ECHO that I had to make sure I tried several things on their menu, so I did not get around to cooking. Since we were bringing Bo, the hotel also made sure to provide us with a dog bed and other supplies for Bo. This is a great feature in case you are flying in!
There are many types of accommodations at The King and Prince. You will be able to choose from residences, villas, or oceanfront rooms. There is something for everyone!
The Fire Pit
Once we were finished with dinner, we headed up to the beach to grab a nightcap and enjoy the scenery and ocean breezes. The moon and ocean were just stunning as we walked along the beach. Then we headed to the fire pit to hang out with Bo.
The full moon was stunning over the Atlantic, listening to the waves crash against the rocks. The resort has such a romantic atmosphere in the evening!
ECHO Oceanfront Restaurant
From grabbing a meal at ECHO, the Sea Shack Bar and Bites or even having room service delivered, The King and Prince have you covered when it comes to delicious food. Our favorite at the hotel was ECHO.
Breakfast
The next morning we headed to ECHO to have breakfast. ECHO has a pet-friendly area on the patio. Oceanfront dining? Okay! We were able to obtain a great table right on the beach. Jack ordered the King and Prince Spa Benny, and I chose the East Beach Frittata on our first day. The next day I ordered an Eggs Benedict dish and subbed the bacon for Salmon and Spinach! There was so much delicious food at ECHO! We made sure to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner at ECHO so we could experience all three types of meals there.
Lunch
For lunch, I decided to order something lighter for me. The Black and Blue Salad. Grilled tenderloin with mixed lettuce salad and lightly tossed in blue cheese dressing. Jack went with the classic burger and fries.
Dinner
Once we arrived at ECHO the hostess seated us right away on the patio. You will have to forgive my photos here. To protect wildlife, the lighting is very dim, and I did not think to bring another light.
ECHO had several great appetizers to choose from. We went with the Seared Tuna with a wasabi-avocado mayo, apple, and radish salad, hoisin sauce and the Black Truffle Fries served with an Aoli Mayo.
Next, I noticed there was a Prime Ribeye on the specials. Anytime I an obtain Prime beef I am one happy girl. It came with a side of broccolini, sweet potatoes and mushrooms with your choice of sauces. I went with the Bernaise. Jack ordered the Red Snapper served with pimento cheese middlins, a type of rice grits, roasted garlic & tomato hollandaise and a side of their amazing mac and cheese!
The food was fantastic and the service was excellent! I love how Executive Chef, James Flack mingles southern favorites into many of the dishes! You will want to check out the only oceanfront restaurant on the island and visit ECHO.
The King and Prince Pool and Amenities
Once breakfast was over, we would walk along the beach and enjoy the views from the property. There are chairs and swings lining the beach for everyone to enjoy the ocean views.
After our morning walks, we would head to the pool. We were able to get lounge chairs facing the ocean. There is poolside service from ECHO as well as the Sea Shack Bar and Bites. It was an opportunity to unwind and enjoy the soft breezes and warm sun. September is a great month to be at the King and Prince!
While we were poolside, we decided to order a snack to tide us over to dinner. ECHO has an amazing Pimento Cheese Hummus! Pimento Cheese is a southern favorite, and it was just amazing mixed with the hummus, served with crostinis. Perfect with Titos and Soda on a warm sunny day!
While you are poolside, there is a beach entrance at the edge of the pool area so you can take a dip in the ocean or the pool. We did both.

The Royal Treatment Cottage is located right next to the Wynn Cottage. There are many inclusive packages you can choose from on your romantic weekend to The King and Prince. Make sure not to wait to book your treatment. They book up quickly!

The resort offers tennis as well. With two Har-Tru tennis courts that are complimentary for the guests, you will not lack for activities at The King and Prince. They also offer lessons with a professional staff that will help you to improve your game. If you decide to overindulge like us, you will have no problem shedding off those extra pounds in the resort fitness center!
